For years, the Orange County Great Park was mired in controversy — corruption, city infighting, and lawsuits stalled its development for more than a decade. When FivePoint took on the herculean task of reimagining the sports facility, securing approvals, and funding construction, they knew the grand opening needed to be more than a ribbon-cutting. It had to showcase a world-class sports destination, rebuild trust, and celebrate Irvine’s new legacy.

The timeline was as ambitious as the project itself. With only 90 days from construction completion to opening day, we were tasked with producing a large-scale, multi-sport program that could host over 25,000 guests, engage civic leaders, and end with a headline-worthy concert — all without missing a beat.

We designed an opening celebration that embodied the scale and spirit of the park itself:

• Partnered with AYSO to activate youth soccer fields, bringing families and players into the heart of the event.
• Coordinated with the Orange County Soccer Club for an exhibition match in the Championship Stadium.
• Built a food truck village to deliver hospitality at scale and create a festival-like atmosphere.
• Closed the night with a Blues Brothers concert, blending nostalgia and energy to leave a lasting impression.

The grand opening exceeded all expectations: more than 25,000 guests attended, and the event made national news. For FivePoint, it wasn’t just the launch of a facility — it was proof that their vision, leadership, and investment had delivered a world-class sports complex for Irvine.
